Friday’s BOLD LAW …from KW MAPS NLP Coach George Gillas… ” Your business grows to the extent you do “

Your business grows to the extent you do

In 1998, after a career in sales (management/training) I decided to move from Philadelphia to Scottsdale, AZ to become a massage therapist… there’s a whole story behind that decision.

As a newly licensed therapist I get a call from prospect with a unique problem; due to radiation for breast cancer, her left arm had very limited range of motion. Her entire scapula looked and felt like it was glued down, limiting her arm movement. Her Dr. told her “Be happy to be alive… this is something you’ll have to live with…” (Pretty arrogant…)

One of my instructors shared a philosophy in a class that hit home with this new prospective client: “The universe will never send you something that you can’t handle. Even if you don’t think you can at the time…”

With that in mind, and with the confidence that goes hand in hand with ignorance (as Zig Ziglar used to say), I took the client on. I mapped out a course of therapy on her shoulder and, for the next several weeks, twice a week, I worked her through a relatively painful process to break up the scar tissue and stretch the weakened muscles into action. I then taught her daughter, a massage therapy student at the time, to continue the treatment.

She didn’t get 100% ROM when I discharged her but she did improve dramatically. And she was now pain free.

Your business grows to the extent you do… and sometimes your business becomes the catalyst to your growth. Every once in a while something will cross your desk and you may feel that you don’t know how to handle it. This is a gift. Think of it as your business talking to you… challenging you to expand your knowledge and skill. Get competitive with yourself. Stretch. Be scared… it’s okay.

Another philosophy I heard that I like is, “I’m too competitive to be your next failure…” What would happen if you take that one to heart with your next deal that goes sideways? How attractive would you be to FSBO and expired prospects if that was in your heart?

Growth can be uncomfortable and what is on the other side is always worth it.
