Friday’s BOLD LAW from KW MAPS NLP Coach George Gillas… ” Motion = Emotion “
Motion equals emotion
What could you accomplish if your attitude was truly (and sincerely) positive and optimistic? Do you want to change your mind so you are more positive, enthusiastic, ready for the challenges of the day? How would this be a benefit to you?
One of the easiest ways to change your mind is to change your state – your physical state.
Are you spending more time in front of your computer on Zoom calls? Is your energy level down? What happens to your attitude when you have been physically stagnant for hours?
Change your state. Move. Get up and stretch if you can’t get outside for a walk. Physical movement changes the chemistry in your body. William James, the “Founder of American psychology” said: We do not sing because we are happy; we are happy because we sing.
Feelings follow actions. When you move your body – you change your state – you affect your attitude.
So, we’re talking about getting motivation through discipline. If you wait to feel motivated to work on your key results activities (20%), you are going to have fleeting results because motivation is that way. Fleeting.
Focus instead on discipline. The discipline to get up and move when you are feeling in a funk. The discipline to take a brisk walk instead of a cup of coffee. The discipline to do some moderate exercises in your office (Google it) instead of trying to ‘motivate yourself’ to make calls.
Discipline is something you can count on because it is proactive. And the motivation is the feeling that follows.
“Don’t expect to be motivated every day to get out there and make things happen. You won’t be. Don’t count on motivation. Count on Discipline.” – Jocko Willnik (Former Navy SEAL)
